This was originally for our school newspaper and since I am riduclously lazy at both my journalism class and my blog I feel it would be best if I just killed two bids with one stone.

Note: There was a huge table in the middle of the pros and cons of each movie. But Blogspot sucks and it didn't show up.

Which One?

Throughout my lifetime I have seen a substantial amount of movies. Sadly, much more than anybody should have seen or ever should see. Despite seeing so many movies throughout my sixteen and a half years on earth I have narrowed my favorites down to a select list. Now, a list of favorite movies can literally go on forever. Therefore, being the intellectual genius that I am (or lazy person that I am, I’ll let you decide for yourself) I want to debate which comedy is the best of the past three-four years. I chose comedy as my genre of choice for two reasons. One, everybody loves a good comedy, and two; most of my favorite movies are comedies. The debate is between five movies, and through the majesty of Microsoft Word and good grammar we are going to discover which movie is the most superior out of the great ones. The five choices are as follows; The 40 Year Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Borat, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

5) 40 Year Old Virgin
Just because this movie falls in at number five, doesn’t mean it’s bad. I just don’t think it was quite as good as any of these other ones. Steve Carrel was the absolutely perfect guy for this job, and nobody could have done a better job on it (other example, Owen Wilson in You Me and Dupree). Great quotes throughout the movie, and four completely different characters that add their own individual personalities upon the film. I just wish that the movie didn’t feature the love story. It was lame, and every minute the grandma or her loud and obnoxious daughter was on screen made me want to cry.

4) Wedding Crashers
If the whole wedding crashing montage was longer than I suppose I would consider placing it higher in the rankings, because I loved that scene as much as any other scene in movie history. It became a little lame at the end with the “I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today” montage. I suppose the producers knew what they were doing when they made this one. It’s sensitive to attract sensitive people, and funny enough for people like me to enjoy. Good for them eh?

3) Talladega Nights
As much as I love Will Ferrell, and Sasha Cohen, this movie had way too much NASCAR for my liking. I suppose if I were a NASCAR fan that would be a different situation, but I am not, and most likely never will be. The characters in this movie are as great as great as any movie I have ever seen. The first time I saw it, I wasn’t a huge fan. But as I have seen it more and more in the past few weeks it is slowly becoming one of my favorite movies. The only bad thing for this movie is it came out after all the successful comedies, and I think maybe people were expecting too much out of it, myself included. The first time I saw it I was somewhat disappointed, but it’s hilarious each and every time I watch it.

2) Borat
I assume that most people haven’t seen this movie, and that is extremely unfortunate. A revolutionary idea where Sasha Cohen acts as a journalist from Kazakhstan, and makes a fake documentary through the American heartland. It really exposes how dumb some Americans are. This movie is fantastic in ways that cannot be described by myself or this keyboard. You can’t go two minutes in this movie without laughing ridiculously hard. Please, for your sake, when it comes out on video go see it. You will not be disappointed.

1) Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

I assume I am going to take some criticism for my rankings, but I will gladly accept it to defend my opinions. Anchorman features a great script, great actors, a cute dog (that wears pajamas at one point), a jazz flute sequence, and some of the best mustaches I have ever seen. I know this isn’t saying much, but my friends and I quote this movie seven-eight times a day, and it never gets old. It is a timeless classic, and has only been out for two and a half years. This is one of the few movies I have been able to watch at any time in the last two years and continue to laugh hard. Fantastic movie.
